It made me so mad when Shrimati just watched life pass her by when she had so much untapped potential. I would highly recommend this book.
Kundana No it is not a real story. A typical Sudha Murthy book: It explains the dichotomy that women in particular face when making a choice between Home and Career. What resonates is the way Shrimati struggles, I can see her indecisiveness, her loss of confidence, her turning bitter reflected in my mother and several other women who made sacrifices all their lives and were never acknowledged, let along rewarded for it.
Perhaps, not everyone is not as lucky as me to have such a strong figure in their life and it is for them specially do I recommend this book. Shrikant is a very ambitious young lad where as Shrimati is an intelligent yet simple girl.
In Gently Falls the Bakula, the author brings forth wudha reality of a relationship between a husband and wife. Despite opposition from their families, they get married after completing their education and settle in Bombay.
The idyllic life of Hubli-Dharwad, the harshness and hustle bustle of Mumbai are pictured in a way only Sudha Murthy could have done. Why would I recommend this book to others? All the Indian girls are taught to sacrifice something for everyone either it’s her parents, brother or husband.

I felt She was too submissive than needed. It makes you put down the novel and pick another one. The style of writing was simple and neat, a perfect portrayal of Gentlyy speech.
The narrative style is engaging and simple.

Women according to Indian traditions and so to say many other world cultures are supposed to stay at home ,cook and take care of the family willingly or unwillingly. It makes bakupa doleful and emotional. Shrimati loves her ‘Shri’ with all her heart. I have always seen Sudha Murty as Mrs.
She suggests adoption, which is also promptly turned down. While reading her books, there is such a lot to learn and her books actually have a positive impact. As usual this is sort simple story. And many hoped that Shriman might have had a change-of-heart and maybe would have started paying her attention again.
If the story had a conclusion of Srikant realizing his mistakes and getting back with Srimati, I would have been happier. She gave all power and authority to Shrikant to behave with her like this, to take her for granted by giving up her everything for him and his success in his career.

Sudha Murty is one of my favorite authors and I have read all her books. Sometimes I felt I wanted to understand Shrimati a little fallss, but other than that the characters are well thought out and written. Gently Falls the Bakula Embed. Somehow I feel if I would have read this in Kannada hte original language which this was written inI would have definelty enjoyed even more!

The ideologies, the family rivalry, the typical mother-in-law and sister-in-law vs daughter-in-law enmity, the misconceptions about educational qualifications, and the practices surrounding marriage and match making are all very familiar.
Shrikant was so hungry for success in his career, that he put all his soul to his industry. It is a simple book, a simple story, told beautifully. You are commenting using your Twitter account. Shrimati has to put up with a taunting mother-in-law, who now gets a chance to get back at her enemies. Shrimati, in desperation, tries to get Shrikant to give her some time, but gets chided by him. The open ending is quite appropriate here, but still I would like to assume that at one point of time they again met and lived with each other happily!!

I dont know if this is what the author meant, but his is my understanding of the Bakula’s relevance to the chracters. They are not a great literary treat but her story telling is simply riveting. Shrimati falls ill when her husband is abroad.
