I stumbled across this book in a list and saw the unreal rating and thought to myself “no book is THAT good. However, my only quibble with this one is the sex scenes. Time and again it hits new crescendos of anger and aggression, love and lust, with unexpected twists and turns that always add and never detract. Whenever Dan and Vadim left Afghanistan I felt an inexplicable sense of loss.
My friends know where I stand and I will admit it’s alekwandr somewhat lonely place to be. This book is not for the faint hearted. Voiniv a sort of public service announcement I suppose, giving a little heads up to those contemplating reading Special Forces.
To have THIS at the end? Even when they started messing around on a regular basis, there was very little emotion between them, which made it hard for me to work up any strong feelings either.
With that said, I’d appreciate it if we could differentiate a bit more. I like to think that this is possible. The ability of the authors to akeksandr me care so intensely about a man who starts the book as a rapist, murderer and casual assassin of innocent children is remarkable. Not only because of their nationalities, also because of the things they put each other through.

I read those last few chapters I screamed at and then subsequently cried with Vadim, I fell in love with Maggie, I hurt with Katya, I trembled with Nikolai, I beamed with Anoushka, I embraced the masseur, I ached with Dan and Vadim as they marked each otherand I arrived at the end Those one word sentences when one of the characters are going through something torturous really made me feel like I was inside his head.
